- Teaching:
Reverence
What does reverence mean?
a feeling of profound
respect for someone or something, an attitude of admiration or esteem, or honor
Eccl 12:13
13 Now
all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his
commandments, for this is the whole [duty] of man.
How do we show reverence to
God?
- Fear God and keep his commandments.
Children obey
your parents in the Lord for this is right.
Honor your father and mother which is the first commandment with a
promise that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth. If we honor our parents we will honor God.
2. Be reverent in the house of God.
Did you know
that in the Old Testament the pastors of the church were called priests? The priests were the people elected by God to
go and offer sacrifices for the sins of the people. But before they could go into the holy of
holies they had to purify themselves.
The priests actually wore a robe with bells on the bottom of the robe
and if they entered the Holy of Holies and the bells stopped ringing then that
meant that they had sin in their life and the people would have to pull them
out. They could not stand before the
Lord with purifying their life. Did you
know God wants us to live in holiness and be reverent to God today. In 1 Peter 2:29 the Bible says you are a
royal priesthood.
Ex: Samuel’s sons who did not show reverence
eventually died.
Ps 119:9,10 The reverent fear and worship of the Lord is
the beginning of wisdom.
